# Posted: 16 Nov 2007 00:09 Sakset fra det svenske forum: Dear Representative of the IGF Member Country, 22.Oct.2007 I am writing to officially announce to the IGF community the exciting news of the upcoming First World Mind Sports Games (WMSG) under the auspices of the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA), the China Card and Board Game Centre, and the General Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF). Along with four other mind sports - bridge, chess, draughts, and xiang-qi - go will be featured as a global mind sport event in the same venue as the 2008 Summer Olympics, from October 3 to October 18. An unprecedented, generous, support by the Chinese Ministry of Sports has been key in bringing this event to its realization, to which I am deeply grateful. As the President of IGF, the organization that will represent the go community, I wish to encourage and to invite your participation. In the next few months, a great deal of hard work will be required of us all to ensure the success of this event. At this time, many of the technical details are still under development; however, I will sketch out below the tentative, general, participatory rules to help your country get started with your preparation. * The top players will participate from each country, including professionals. There will be multiple medal items; under consideration are individual men and women, team men and women, mixed pair, and another individual open medal round restricted to amateurs only. * The teams will represent a country. However, to facilitate world wide participation, in special cases teams may be formed by several countries from a common region that has low Go population. * The cost of venue, equipment, support personnel, and room and board for players and officials will be borne by the organizers. * Individual member countries are asked to actively seek support from their national or regional communities for the travel expenditure of their participants. It is possible that, in special hardship cases, some or all of this support may be paid by the organizers and/or by IGF. I encourage you to seek dialogue with other mind sport organizations in your country to coordinate your fund-raising efforts. IGF will actively assist you by providing slide presentations about the game of Go and about WMSG; we will also send official letters of support where and when requested. In special cases, IGF officials may be dispatched if necessary. Please contact the general secretary of IGF, Ms. Shigeno Yuki for questions and to indicate your interest. Sincerely, IGF President Hiromu Okabe |

> Nytt meddelande från Tony Atkins, ordförande i europeiska goförbundet (EGF): > > Dear Members, > > I have been asked by several of you about the World Mind Sports Games > being > held in Beijing from 3rd - 16th October 2008. > > The EGF has no role in organising this event as it is being run by the > IGF as part of IMSA.
